Shades News is a free, no-paywall news app that shows the same story as told by different outlets, different communities, different lenses. Built for people who want to form their own views — not inherit them.
It covers politics, pop culture, sports, and the stuff of the internet. Launched on iOS in 2024, co-founded with Sonali Maitra (Stanford lecturer, video game lawyer) and Jeff Grimes (former Google, scaled Discover Feed to a billion dollars in annual revenue).
The Thesis
The problem isn't that any single outlet is biased. The problem is that it's too hard to triangulate between biased sources. We give you the triangulation automatically: one story, many angles, presented side by side, free forever.
